The Field - Washington, Seattle

Tuesday Matthew flew to Seattle (along with a group of 18 other missionaries)… in all there were 20 that arrived in Seattle on Tuesday.

He telephoned from the airport.  He called and spoke to dad and mom for about a 1/2 hour each.  He was able to tell us how excited he was to get to Seattle.  He told us how much he had learned in the MTC.  He tells us he feels much closer to Heavenly Father and knows for sure this is where he is supposed to be.

I got the "I'm alive and have arrived in Seattle" email on Tuesday night.  He said he had arrived, that they had been met at the airport by Elder and Sister Rasmussen (the mission president and his wife).  They then got to spend the afternoon doing some training, had a dinner all together, and that night were going to get to meet their new companions.

We received the picture above of the group of all of the new missionaries and the one below of Matthew with Elder and Sister Rasmussen from her on Wednesday.  Her email told us that his new companion would be Elder Worthington, and that his first area would be in the Hylebos Ward in Federal Way.

We were not expecting to hear anything after that until Monday which would be his first PDay there in Seattle, but were very excitedly surprised when we got a text on Friday afternoon from a ward member from Federal Way.  Sister Angelo made our day when she sent the picture of Elder Harding and Elder Worthington.  She has welcomed him and says that she knew Matthew's teacher (Zac Durrant who taught him for KaveTV) when he'd been there on his mission several years ago too.  I'm sure that made Matt excited to have that connection.  Sister Angelo said that they like to "adopt" their missionaries as part of their family. I know this means that Matt will be well taken care of.  She hopes (and we do too) that they will get to stay there through Christmas.  It has been fun communicating with her a little back and forth.

It has been wonderful to see how well our Elder is being cared for already.  It's crazy that this week we are coming up on the one month mark already.  Christmas is right around the corner and it will be fun to get to FaceTime or Skype with him.
